The Career of Dr. Ira Kirschenbaum

Dr. Ira Kirschenbaum, Chairman of Orthopedics at Bronxcare Health System, specializes in joint and bone problems in the knee, hip, and shoulder. Prior to his present position, he has served as the Chief Medical Officer for DTC Healthcom and Advisory Chief Program Officer for the Swiftpath Program. Since 1995 he has been an active member of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons. Since 2010 he has consistently served on the Board of Directors for the EHR Project Team. He first entered the medical field by obtaining a degree from Brown University in 1979 followed by his medical degree from Albert Einstein College of Medicine where he completed his residency.

After completing this residency, he went on to attend Thomas Jefferson University where he was more fully trained in hip and knee surgery. Today, Dr. Ira Kirschenbaum says he starts an average day by checking his emails and social media profiles. He says this is soon followed by meeting with the leadership of his department and developing weekly plans. His strategy for forming these plans involves forming new ideas, developing ways to make the ideas reality, and figuring out how to distribute the idea. He is convinced that the best way to make one of his ideas reality is to effectively communicate his ideas to a team so that they fully believe in this vision as well.

As a leader in his department, he knows the best way to make sure he is effective at this is to connect with everyone under him on a personal level. He also knows that a leader who wants to be successful must learn to find people who do things better than they do and work closely with them. He is very optimistic about the future improvement of the medical industry as a whole. In his rare spare time, Dr. Ira Kirschenbaum loves to read both non-fiction and fiction books. One of his favorite books is Blink by Malcolm Gladwell.
